Should nature have the same rights as people?  In some places, it does. In 2016, Colombia recognized the legal rights of the Atrato River, declaring it a living entity in order to grant it legal representation and help preserve its ecosystem. Similar laws have been passed in Bangladesh, New Zealand and Canada, protecting the rivers and the land around them from pollution. With these legal rights in place, people or companies who harm the river would face serious consequences.  Should legal personhood be extended to trees, animals or other parts of nature? And if so, what would that reality look like? These questions are explored in “The Last Impala,” the preview episode of our forthcoming podcast Necessary Tomorrows, available to listen to exclusively through @Tribeca, only until June 18. Listen to the episode at the link in bio and let us know what you think—could legal status for nature help save it?  #DearWorld #naturelovers #naturesrights #atratoriver #necessarytomorrows
