Today we mark the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula – a preventable birth injury with a cure that far too many of its sufferers do not know exists. CPAR is working to train midwives and healthcare workers in rural Ethiopia to find the women whose birth-related incontinence has made them social outcasts and bring them for surgery. Meanwhile, we’re ensuring more women do not join their ranks by improving prenatal care and making it easier and more accessible – especially for those most likely to develop the condition, including child mothers and women who give birth without medical assistance.
