Listen: the Moon isn’t gonna observe itself! ⁣ ⁣ International Observe the Moon Night is coming up on Saturday, Sept. 14. And there are so many observations to be made! You can observe the Moon by joining one of our virtual or in-person events, or simply by stepping outside and saying hi. Hi, Moon!⁣ ⁣ NASA also makes lunar observations! For example, this image is from our Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), which has been in orbit around the Moon since 2009. LRO’s laser altimeter and camera are recording the rugged, airless lunar terrain in exceptional detail, making it possible to visualize the Moon with unprecedented fidelity. This is especially evident in the long shadows cast near the terminator, or day-night line. The pummeled, craggy landscape thrown into high relief at the terminator would be impossible to recreate in the computer without global terrain maps like those from LRO.⁣ ⁣ Check out the link in the bio for more information about International Observe the Moon Night!⁣ ⁣ ...
