In case you still wonder why stats and course management can help you shoot better scores, here is an example for you. 🧐 In the picture above you have the 16th hole in Munich this week at the BMW International Open. The hole is 305 yds to the front and it is 230 yds to carry the bunker with a fairway width of 24 yds, while it is 210 yds to stay short of the bunker where the fairway width is 40 yds wide. There is water short, left and right and the green slopes severely towards the water. 📊 At the beginning of the week I suggested to all the players that I work with to layup past the bunker off the tee as it makes the hole way easier based on the data we had from previous years, on their individual shot patterns and on the course conditions. 🤔 It turns out in round 1 and 2 the scoring avg for the players that laid up past the bunker was 3.688, while the scoring avg for players that laid up short was 4.074…which means players that laid up past the bunker saved 0.386 shots per round...
