On the eve of one of the most notable anniversaries in Buffalo’s history, Canisius students partnered with the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site to restore a historic marker on our campus. Seniors in teacher Justin Siuta’s History of Western New York class refurbished and repainted the marker this week. The sign recognizes the site of the Milburn House, which once stood at the corner of West Ferry and Delaware and where President William McKinley died on September 14, 1901, eight days after being shot. On Friday, tr_inaugural_site Executive Director Spencer Morgan joined Siuta’s class and Principal Tom Coppola ’01 to place a memorial wreath on the freshly restored marker. The wreath placement is one of several TR site commemoration events as Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024 marks the 123rd anniversary of the tragic death of President McKinley and the inauguration of President Theodore Roosevelt in Buffalo.
