Nazareth’s only men’s ice hockey head coach in program history, George Roll, has announced that the 2024-2025 season will be his last.
A career that has spanned 37 seasons, Roll has taken on 28 years of that career as a head coach. James McDonald, a 2020 graduate of Nazareth, will be his replacement after a stellar playing career and being Roll’s assistant for the past four seasons.
Roll took over the Golden Flyers men’s ice hockey program in 2012-2013 with the challenge of building it from the ground up. In 12 seasons, he’s compiled a record of 110-161-32 (.363) with his first win coming on October 18, 2012, against Geneseo for a 3-2 OT victory.
The Golden Flyers had their best season under Roll in 2022-2023 when they finished with a 18-8-2 record, 14-5-1 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (
#UCHC). They earned the 2-seed in the UCHC playoffs only to fall to 1-seed Utica in the finals.
