The Physician Assistant (PA) profession was established in 1967 at Duke University by 4 Navy corpsmen to relieve the primary care provider shortage. A Physician Assistant Master's Degree program is on average 27 months or 3 academic years with 2,000 hours of clinical rotations. PAs can diagnose, develop treatment plans, prescribe medications, and often serve as patients' principal health care provider. PAs can also practice medicine in many specialities including primary care, internal medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics and more!
