On Monday, September 16, Maureen Leshem ’95 returned to TanenbaumCHAT to speak to three Grade 12 classes about her cousin, Romi Gonen. Romi has been held hostage in Gaza for almost one year now, and Maureen — a self-professed nervous public speaker — has made it her mission to step outside her comfort zone to share Romi’s story and advocate for the hostages who can’t speak for themselves.
We sincerely thank Maureen and her associate, Simone Spiegel, for speaking to our students about the responsibility that comes with sharing Romi’s story, the rising tide of antisemitism Jews face today, and the importance of using one’s voice to stand up for and support each other.
