Heartbreaking news: 5 endangered red wolf pups have died after their father was killed by a vehicle strike, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service confirmed today.
#Redwolves are monogamous and mate for life, and both parents participate in caring for their
#pups. After the death of her partner, the mother of the pups — Chance — was likely unable to feed and care for her pups by herself.
5 other red wolves have been killed by cars in the past year. Now, less than 20 of these
#animals are left in the wild. Vehicle collisions have become the leading cause of mortality for red
#wolves.
That's why the Center and partners are leading a campaign to build
#wildlifecrossings in the heart of red wolves' habitat to prevent these deaths.
