Applause to Doctor of Occupational Therapy student Makayla Goehring for getting the opportunity to work on a sensory room in a local elementary school this summer. She helped create an effective layout of the room and determined what worked best for the students. 👏
She utilized what she learned in her Adaptation/Technology Theory and Practice course in the summer term and created homemade, hands-on sensory activities that students can do while sitting on the restraint cushion or the swings. The goal of the sensory room is to allow students to address their needs and center their focus to be more engaged in the classroom.
“We are finishing up the elementary school room soon and hope to move to the high school and middle schools. I am so excited to continue this journey!” - Makayla Goehring (OTD '26)
