Today, our family said goodbye to my great aunt Cynthia “Cynbad” Goddard. I had the chance to see her twice last week before her passing. The first time I saw her, I thought it was going to be my last. I sat on the couch next to her and talked to her, telling her of my day. I asked if she knew it was me. She squeezed my hand. The next day I called to check and heard she was talking, walking with her stroller, and eating meals. I went to visit her again and it was a good thing to see her in that state. She would always tell me, “I pray for you Nikki.” And she always told me how much she loved her “Nikki” time. She always got a kick out of what I had to say. I can hear her laugh with her distinct laugh, cough, and then wipe her nose. I didn’t even have to tell her jokes, I just told her about all the “stupid I couldn’t fix” that day. Today was the first time in church, I didn’t touch her hair. She didn’t like her hair being touched. She would spray her hair so well a wind storm could...
