Amazing event at the first National Safer Communities Summit! I got the opportunity to meet and take a picture with the President Biden. I also had the opportunity to meet other leaders and lawmakers like Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, and Congresswoman Lucy McBath. I was able to listen to stories from survivors and community members on the effects that gun violence has had on their lives. I was able to relate to their stories as I’ve lost people firsthand due to gun violence. One year ago President Biden signed into law the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) that was spearheaded by Senator Chris Murphy. The BSCA is the most significant anti-gun legislation in decades. It strengthened background checks, made gun trafficking a federal crime, and allocated funding to help states implement red flag laws.
