Just before 1 p.m. the band took to the field at Kelly Reeves Stadium in Round Rock to perform its show “Fury Road.” Today marks the band’s first competition performance of the season and may have qualified them for the finals later tonight. Senior woodwind captain, Ava Escamilla, said she was proud of the band’s performance.
“It went pretty well from what I saw,” she said. “All in all, we stayed together, and it sounded pretty good.”
In just under thirty minutes, drum majors will receive word of whether or not the band has made it to the finals, and Escamilla said that the results could go either way.
“It’s hard to tell,” she said. “We’re up against a lot of really big 6A schools. A majority of the bands make finals, but mainly for us, it’s about seeing which of the smaller bands we can beat.”
Escamilla has a flute solo midway through the performance and was tasked with a variety of different additional challenges.
