Founded shortly after John Fallon filed a claim on his Sheridan Mine in Marshal Basin in 1875, Telluride quickly became a bustling mining town due to the silver and gold in the surrounding mountains. Its isolation and the rugged terrain added to its allure for adventurous prospectors. Despite its mining roots, Telluride has preserved much of its historic architecture. Victorian-style buildings line its streets, contributing to its charming atmosphere.   In the 1970s, Telluride embraced its winter sports potential.
