CULTURE THROUGH FOOD: The McCallum Students of Color Alliance handed out cups of agua fresca, a fruit drink, this past Friday to promote Hispanic Heritage Month. When the club was brainstorming ways to celebrate the heritage month, they came up with the idea to spread cultural awareness through food because it allows for people to experience other cultures’ daily lives.
Senior Brianna Miller, a member of the club, helped with distributing the drink to students for free. Miller loved watching the joy that the spread of Hispanic culture brought students.
“My favorite part of the whole experience was making the agua frescas and handing them out,” she said. “It was just really fun to spread someone else’s culture and joy.”
The Friday distribution tables were the first free handout that the club has done this school year, but they plan on doing more in the future to spread further cultural awareness about other cultures that are on the Mac campus and all around the world.
