HER MOST BEAUTIFUL DAY: On Sunday afternoon in the MAC, five actors had the chance to perform their understudy roles for which they had been preparing for months. Sophomore Finley McBride, who performed Sunday as Mae Tuck, said that playing an older character was a new experience for her but she enjoyed trying something new.
“I usually play younger roles,” McBride said. “I like that she’s older, and I get to portray a mom character that’s protective over others.”
McBride said that although she doesn’t relate to Mae, the character’s storyline and complex emotions shine a new light on female roles in theatre.
“Mae has very deep emotions,” she said. “I feel like in a lot of theatre, women are portrayed as just a plot point to move something along, but Mae is different. She has her story arc of wanting to be closer with Angus.”
For McBride, her alternate night may be over, but the experience will be everlasting.
