Multnomah County Animal Services officials are asking for an estimated $60 million to build a new animal shelter to replace the current Troutdale shelter that auditor’s deemed inadequate and cramped as far back as 2016.
Animal Services Director Erin Grahek told the Board of Commissioners Tuesday that the current shelter is ill-equipped to handle the number of animals that it takes in, which has often forced the shelter to keep pets and equipment in hallways. Grahek and Facilities and Property Management Director Dan Zalkow pitched the new facility as the next step forward to establishing better conditions for animals and staff.
