The city of St. Helens is transforming itself once again into “Halloweentown.” The monthlong Spirit of Halloweentown celebration, in honor of the 1998 Disney Channel movie that filmed on location in St. Helens, kicks off Saturday and runs every weekend through Oct. 31. Several changes this year include one big one: No Halloween Parade will be held. After last year’s event, organizers told the Columbia County Spotlight newspaper that the parade had simply grown too big, and safety concerns grew from the large (and sometimes unruly) crowds.
