π€ Did you know...
That Durham, NC, was once home to some of the largest tobacco warehouses in the state?
When we first stumbled across this spot, I, true to my nature, immediately sat Sully down for a picture. It wasn't until I did a little research later on that I realized that it wasn't the entrance to an old drive in movie theater (though that would have been cool!).
Nope, turns out this was the former entrance to one of Durham's last standing tobacco auction warehouses! Back when "tobacco was king", Durham was the place to be, apparently. Auctions were held here up until the mid 1980s. Tobacco was such a big thing in Durham that it ultimately inspired the nickname of "The Bull City" - named after Bull Durham Tobacco!
Clearly I'm a little bit of a history nerd, but what can you do! π Does anyone else research when they find cool things like this?
