I learned that the match is based on genetics and strongly determined by ethnicity. There is a severe lack of Asian donors in the registry, so I signed up. Got a free kit in the mail, swabbed my cheeks, and sent it back. Recently, I was determined to be a perfect match for someone with leukemia. I agreed to donate and was surprised by how the process was easy yet impactful.
