#StaffPickThursday comes from Jocelyn, a Library Assistant at Southeast Branch! She chose "East of Eden" by John Steinbeck. 📚
"I read 'Grapes of Wrath' shortly before plucking 'East of Eden' from the shelves, and while I loved both, Steinbeck’s novel following the multi-generational Trask family as they try to forge their lives within a daunting and unforgiving early American landscape had me rapt down to the very last page. It felt as though I was actually inhabiting the characters’ inner worlds, rather than merely glimpsing them through a book; Their struggles became my struggles, and I took ownership of their private thoughts. This intimacy with characters is something I’ve always thought elevated a story from commonplace to remarkable. In 'East of Eden', an already remarkable story became masterful. I look forward to revisiting it for years to come, especially to catch up with my two favorite characters, Lee and Samuel Hamilton. Timshel!"
