A former Colorado county clerk who promoted 2020 election conspiracy theories has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Tina Peters allowed a man affiliated with spreading misinformation around the 2020 U.S. presidential election to use a security card to access the Mesa County election system. She was convicted on seven counts of engaging in a security breach by allowing unauthorized access to voting machines.
‘I am convinced you would do it all over again if you could. You’re as defiant as any defendant this court has ever seen,’ Judge Matthew Barrett told her announcing the sentence. ‘You are no hero. You abused your position and you’re a charlatan.’
