Here's to a brighter future for California's diverse wildlife š: Last Friday, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law the Room to Roam Act (A.B. 1889) that will set measures that will improve statewide wildlife connectivity in California.
Many animals like mountain lions and desert tortoises are struggling because ill-conceived development has sliced up their habitat, leaving them unable to find food and shelter. Some suffer from harmful inbreeding due to habitat fragmentation.
These challenges not only make it hard for wildlife to thrive, it also makes it hard for them to survive. This bill lays out clear guidelines for cities to address wildlife connectivity in their long-range plans.
