I started my first travel blog in 2005. It was a way to keep family and friends updated on my adventures teaching English in France. But chronicling my life overseas soon became a passion project, a way to share my experiences as a Black woman living and working and traveling in Europe and Asia, when not many people who looked like me were doing so.
At the time there was no such thing as being a digital nomad, Instagram didn't exist, and I often hurriedly typed my blog posts from internet cafes in whatever random corner of the world I found myself in. Writing was a form of connection, but also a diversion-- from my full-time gig as a secondary school teacher to expat children overseas.
I never imagined my little website could be the foundation of a career in travel media, but 800+ blog posts later not only was I able to turn my love of travel and storytelling into a full-time job, I’m also able work with amazing companies like Marriott 🥰.
So this is my very long-winded way of sayi...
