Photos by babaktafreshi | It was a wondrous morning in Puerto Rico, with a rare pairing of a comet and the moon in a wide-angle image, an hour before sunrise on September 30. Swipe for close-up views. All are single-exposure photographs. I’m on Vieques island for my Life at Night Atlas project with the National Geographic Society and to document the approaching comet A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas), which is currently visible in the morning sky, especially in the tropics. I could see the comet with unaided eyes, though fainter and smaller than in these images. The morning view continues to October 3 and 4. Then the comet will be too close to the rising sun until October 10 and 11, when it is expected to become much brighter as it reappears in the evening sky. On the prime nights of October 12 and 13, when it is closest to Earth, the comet will be most visible in the Northern Hemisphere. Follow me babaktafreshi for more updates on this and other celestial wonders. #comet #tsuchinshanatlas #astro...
