During the Korean War John Glenn had quite the wingman, Red Sox star and Hall of Famer Ted Williams. They flew together for nearly half their missions and built a lifelong friendship. During a tribute Glenn said "Ted was an excellent pilot, and not shy about getting in there and mixing it up. Ted may have batted .400 for the Red Sox, but he hit a thousand as a U.S. Marine."
