October is National Pedestrian Safety Month, and it's a reminder to stay alert while walking. In Apache Junction, pedestrian fatalities are higher than in many other cities, so it’s critical we all do our part to stay safe. Here are some important tips:
📱 Heads up, cell phones down. Distractions can lead to tragedy.
🚦 Cross at corners and intersections and use marked crosswalks whenever possible.
👀 Look left, right, and left again before crossing the street.
🚸 Use pedestrian buttons at traffic signals and wait for the walk signal. Don’t start crossing if the red hand or countdown appears.
🌙 Be visible at night! Wear reflective clothing or carry a flashlight—it’s harder for drivers to see you than for you to see them.
🚗 Watch for turning vehicles, especially those turning right on red.
🚶♂️ Use sidewalks or walk facing traffic when there are none.
