The paper, published in Nature last week, was researched at a laboratory run by retired UC Berkeley professor Kristin Scott, and a part of a 10-year effort spearheaded by Princeton, Cambridge and the University of Vermont.
Former UC Berkeley postdoc Phillip Shiu began his work on the study at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Shiu’s team combed through individual slices of imaging to assemble their model, consisting of 125,000 neurons.
