Introduced in 1963, Rolex’s 6239 is now one of the most celebrated chronographs in the world. The reference was the first to have the ‘Cosmograph’ dial designation and was produced with several new dial configurations. The Tachymeter scale, used for measuring distance over time, was moved to an enlarged bezel. Rolex also introduced the inverted colors for the chronograph subsidiary dials to increase legibility. This contrast between the main and sub dials had a significant influence on the appearance of many chronograph watches produced after 1963.
