Musician Stephen Malkmus and artist Jessica Jackson Hutchins sold their longtime Northeast Portland residence in late September for $1,072,875 and now live in her hometown of Chicago. Added to the legacy of creative work they are leaving behind is their former 1927 Mediterranean-style home with a central turret they remade to reflect “old meets new, east meets west, functionality meets fun,” as described in the real estate listing. “It is such a cool house,” said Niki Rondini of Portland Proper Real Estate, who represented the couple in the transaction. “Stephen and Jessica were good stewards to the unique architectural features.” Malkmus, who performs with Pavement, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, The Hard Quartet and as a solo artist, purchased the 8,276-square-foot property in the Laurelhurst neighborhood in 2001.
