Someone reached out to me a while ago asking, "My good friend's son has hearing loss. How can I be a better support/better friend for her?" I cannot tell you with words how full this made my heart feel.
🦻For your deaf/hard of hearing friends and family, support and going the extra mile could look like: -Clapping with the rhythm while playing music
-Providing extra visuals while talking (think pointing or hand gestures if you don't know the sign)
-Reducing distracting noise in the house when they're over.
-Turning on closed captions on for movies/TV.
-Remembering to get their attention before speaking.
🦻For adults it could also be nixing the stand up comedy show for something more engaging or interactive because live shows aren't always accessible for the deaf/hard of hearing.
