Willie Hernández turned in one of the finest seasons ever by a relief pitcher in 1984. Hernández appeared in a Major League-leading 80 games, going 9-3 with 32 saves and a 1.92 ERA. The Puerto Rico native won both the AL Cy Young and MVP Awards, one of only three relief pitchers in history to win both in the same season.
