Members of over 50 Indigenous tribes gathered at an Indigenous People’s Day Celebration on Saturday organized by the Miss Indian Northwest Organization. The event, which ran from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Gordon Russell Middle School, 3625 S.E. Powell Valley Road in Gresham, featured an art market, dancing and a powwow drum session.
While the Miss Indian Northwest Organization has been around since 1969, this is the first year it has held an Indigenous People’s Day Celebration, said the organization’s director Rebecca Kirk, who is Klamath, Wasco and Leech Lake Ojibwe.
