We don’t always take selfies, but when we do… it’s in space.
NASA astronaut Christina Koch (Astro_Christina) took this “space-selfie” during the first all-woman spacewalk on Oct. 18, 2019. She and fellow NASA astronaut Jessica Meir (Astro_Jessica) ventured into the vacuum of space for seven hours and 17 minutes to change a failed battery charge-discharge unit (BCDU) on the International Space Station (ISS). The BCDU regulates the charge to the batteries that collect and distribute solar power to the orbiting lab’s systems.
As the mission specialist for the Artemis II mission, Koch will fly around the Moon inside the Orion spacecraft with fellow NASAAstronauts Reid Wiseman (Astro_Reid) and Victor Glover, as well as CanadianSpaceAgency astronaut Jeremy Hansen (AstroJeremy). She will become the first woman to fly around the Moon.
