Over the Moon. It’s been win or go home for Argentina for three games at this point, and they got the job done today too. For Messi’s historic 1000th match, we ventured out to Lunas de Buenos Aires at Union Market for some classic choripanes and a vibrant atmosphere. It was a small space, but bursting at the seams with passion. Oohs and Aahs resonated through the crowd every time Messi touched the ball, and his opening goal was met with pure admiration from his countrymen. For all of us neutrals, it was a work of art too. Julian Alvarez got one for comfort, but when Australia pulled one back, it got nervy over in Qatar and at Las Lunas too. Less chewing on empanadas and more biting of nails to be honest. Dibu Martinez’ save right at the death was met with a huge exhale, and the final whistle triggered a round of cheers.
