Goaltenders, with the start of the nhl season, it was just a matter of time before there was an example of when not to use the RVH.
First, let’s start with this premise. An RVH is not a save. An RVH is a starting point. Ideally, it is utilized when the puck is in close proximity to the net or right behind the net and can be immediately jammed and stuffed in or passed to a weak side threat that is in tight. If the puck is shot, you still have to track it into you and cannot rely on the technique and assume that the puck is just going to hit you. If the puck is passed, as your eyes track ahead, your body weight must transfer so you present your whole body square up over the receiving stick blade to smother the attempt.
