On October 19, 1993, Black Moon released their debut album, ‘Enta da Stage.’
A year prior to the album’s release, the success of their first single “Who Got Da Props?” not only surprised the group but also gave Nervous Records owner Mike Weiss the leverage to convince Black Moon to record a full album. The 14-track project featured other standout singles like, “I Got Cha Opin,” “Buck Em Down,” and “How Many MCs,”—some of which went on to also receive notable remixes.
‘Enta Da Stage’ encapsulates the gritty sound of New York and specific unity during this era — which can be felt as many of the hooks included several additional voices outside the group to shout the chorus for a fuller feeling. Some of the voices included Havoc of Mobb Deep as well as Smif-N-Wessun. In a way, this album served as a pivotal moment for New York hip-hop, as it helped introduce the masses to both members of Smif-N-Wessun long before the release of their own first single.
