Thousands of pumpkin enthusiasts packed the Lake of the Commons in Tualatin, Oregon, Sunday for the annual West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta. Costumed contestants transformed gargantuan gourds into operational boats powered by costumed paddlers. At the same time, spectators clad in costumes ranging from pirates to superheroes, gathered at the edge of the lake.
The Halloween-themed regatta, which started in 2004 as a small local curiosity, has grown into an event known nationwide with over 20,000 attendees annually. This year, the kid-friendly event included pumpkin decorating and carving, face painting, a kids costume contest, a craft tent, food trucks and vendors, and a morning fun run.
