The historic Fleming Building in downtown Des Moines is getting a new, unconventional tenant — a church.
Gateway Church, named for its close proximity to the city's western gateway, has floated around for most of its 15-year existence. Some of its temporary homes have included The Temple for Performing Arts, the Kum & Go Theater in the former Des Moines Social Club, and, currently, the downtown co-working space Gravitate.
This December, thegatewaychurch will hold its first service in an 8,300-square-foot converted office space.
"The natural beauty that comes with all of these windows, this space and our view into the city... It's a reminder of where we are and what we're invited into," said Pastor Dominic Jackson.
