Art has existed in conjunction with society and the government for all of human history. While the impact of art on politics cannot be directly measured, its effect on people’s cultural beliefs is undeniable, both on a national and local level. Identity, one’s personal relationship with art and the message they take away are uniquely individual. While exact effects of art on politics throughout history cannot be tangibly measured, several overarching trends and themes exist. “Expressive acts of political discourse and speech like the creation of art is a wonderful way to engage in the political system,” Associate Professor of Political Science Matthew Hitt said. “So I would encourage people to talk about politics.
