Happy Feast of Mater Admirabilis! Today we celebrated with a gathering at SHP led by student prayer and worship ambassadors. Pictured: sophomore Finau Tau’s vocal performance; John Whitney, S.J.’s reflection; students enjoying traditional goûte with pink cupcakes. The K-8 Feast of Mater Liturgy is tomorrow (remember to wear a pink accessory)!
A little history behind this beautiful Sacred Heart tradition: In 1844, young RSCJ novice Pauline Perdrau painted a fresco of the Virgin Mary at Trinità dei Monti in Rome, choosing a pink dress to reflect youth. Although her technique wasn’t perfect, Pope Pius IX, upon seeing it, declared, “Mater Admirabilis!” Miraculous healings followed, leading to the establishment of this special feast day on Oct. 20.
