Five Detroit natives will be honored with street names in their hometown after a recent vote by the Detroit City Council. The council voted to honor these natives with secondary street signs to recognize their contributions to the city. Two of the five chosen honorees are none other than James Dewitt “J Dilla” Yancey and his mentor, Joseph Anthony “Amp” Fiddler. According to the Detroit News, City Council President Mary Sheffield said “Everyone here that was recommended is notable, is honorable, has done great things for our city, and we appreciate that this is very difficult for us to only select five.” Amp Fiddler long told the legendary story of how he taught a young J Dilla how to use the MPC. Now the two Detroit legends are being honored together in their home city.
