A moment of zen in
@yellowstonenps which was established on March 1, 1872 and despite having been explored since before that and vigorously since then, 96% of visitors never get more than a mile from the roadways! It might be because only 1% of the park is visible from the roads and that's intimidating to people. I'm not sure. But even more surprising, less than 1% of visitors ever spend a night in the backcountry. It's that glorious backcountry without cell signal or WiFi and devoid of human drama that has been our home all week and which has made me happier than I've been in longer than I can remember being when out in nature. Walking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and trekking by vanterra both during the day and at night has allowed us to see bison, elk, deer, wolves, bald eagles and more.
