I found this spot as I was driving between @FSScottsdale and the small town of Carefree, where we had some amazing barbecue. In that part of the state, you're pretty much surrounded on every side by low mountain ranges off in the distance and lots of cactus & scrub brush. Saguaro cactus, like the one shown here, are native to the Sonoran desert and their blossom is the state flower of Arizona. Many people mispronounce the name, but said out loud the word sounds more like: siwaaroe. Saguaros enjoy a fairly long lifespan, often around 150 years, but they often don't grow their first side arm before 75–100 years of age. A Saguaro without arms, is called a Spear. Their blossoms are white and yellow, they appear only from April to June and it's well after sunset that they open, remaining thus till mid-afternoon the next day.
