Before the @edhogmanay events officially start, we decided to explore Edinburgh and I loved showing Danté places I was familiar with, as well as discovering new places. I've walked past St. Giles' Cathedral many times on the Royal Mile but I've never gone inside, so when @dante8 wanted to see it I was glad for the excuse. A soaring church that I think dates to the 15th century, its most distinguishing feature is the Crown Spire on its tower which you can often see from far off, but I also love the interior with its soaring cerulean blue ceiling detail. St. Giles' is the Mother Church of Presbyterianism and contains the Chapel of the Order of the Thistle. It also still holds some dozen or so religious services each week. The St. Giles himself is purported to have been a French abbot but no surprise there as the connection between France and Scotland has been strong for quite some time. #blogmanay
