Big Win in Little Portugal. Nothing was going to stop the sizable Portuguese community in Newark from turning up for this match. It was a rainy day as we set out to Little Portugal, and we were encouraged to see many shops and businesses with names in their native tongue. We made it to Portugalia — a small bar on the corner of Ferry Street — for the first half, and it was like stepping into a classic local bar in Lisbon. Friends and coworkers had taken a break from their shifts to catch the game, and their national team delivered right from the opening whistle. Cheers and applause went around at the half, and we quickly stepped outside to check out the rest of the area. A few blocks down, Iberia Restaurant and Tavern was also hosting a watch party for residents of the neighborhood.
