“And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” -Ecclesiastes 4:12 Community is so important; we are built for companionship with one another. Unfortunately, we live in a broken world with imperfect people. The good news is that God dwells among us! As Solomon writes, when we stand alone against the world, we will surely be beaten down, but with another we will withstand. He doesn’t say we will prevail over the world, but that we would withstand it. In this he means that we would weather the storm. This third in the threefold cord is God, he is what makes us strong. If God is the basis of our relationships, if he is intertwined in our relationships with others, then they will be firm. To have this kind of relationship is such a blessing and so encouraging.
