Shout out to Shield adviser Dave Winter for having his April 8 eclipse photo published in the fall 2024 edition of “Communication: Journalism Education Today,” the national magazine of the Journalism Education Association. Winter’s photo was published along with the other student and faculty winners of the Association of Texas Photography Instructors Eclipse Contest, which sought entries in two categories: “reaction” and “eclipse.” Winter earned an honorable mention in the faculty “reaction” category. Asked for comment, Winter said he was most excited about the credit because it meant that he has accomplished something that his talented former student, current SCAD junior Mia Gomez, accomplished a year ago when she earned a credit in the fall 2023 issue of the same magazine. “Any time I can accomplish something that Mia has accomplished, I am counting that as a win,” Winter said. “As a duo, we now have two credits in JEA’s national magazine.
