Running might seem like an individual sport to some, but for me it’s always been about community. Without a doubt, the hardest parts of my career have been brought on by injury. The physical part of being injured is hard enough, but along with that comes emotional challenges like loss of confidence, identity, and community. One thing that has really helped me during those times is simply being open about my struggle. Sharing what’s going on with all of you allows me to get my insecurities out in the open. It has helped me feel seen and receive support from friends as well as absolute strangers. And I saw how it helped others know that they too are not alone. Because shame can’t survive in the love of community. This is what Maybelline’s Brave Together initiative is all about.
