Ahah luckily this isn’t real advice (and I never said those words 😂).
However, the Q&A portion after clinics is one of my favorites because it’s when I get to really impart on the kids some of the most valuable lessons and insights I’ve acquired over the years.
The most common questions I get are (in no particular order):
1. What do you do if you get nervous before a match?
2. What do/can you do to stay motivated?
3. How do you deal with losses?
4. How do you deal with injuries?
5. For girls: how do you deal with male teammates or coaches not wanting you there/supporting you?
6. Do you ever get scared/nervous?
7. What’s your pre-match/ competition routine?
8. What do you suggest for cutting weight?
9. What do you do for nutrition?
10. What’s the hardest match you’ve ever wrestled?
Etc…
The overall theme I see is that kids are looking to understand the mental/emotional component to sport. I always try to remind them that sport is a tool to help the...
